Recordings of my music

My work The World on Fire (2015) will be released on a CD entitled A New Heaven on Signum Classics on the 03 March 2017. The recording is made by The Chapel Choir of The Queen's College, Oxford University (with whom I have a strong working relationship), conducted by Owen Rees, and features contemporary works by MacMillan, Jackson, Rutter, Leighton and many others. The work was first performed by the choir.

10/03/2017: A New Heaven is number one in the UK Specialist Chart! Great news, and huge congratulations to all involved.

22/03/2017: A nice little review in the BBC Music Magazine where they state: 'Queen's College Choir is on top form...works by Cecilia McDowell and Phillip Cooke show the singers at their radiant best'. Nice.

02/06/2017: A 'mixed' review in The Gramophone, where they praise the CD's 'style and shape', but refer to me as being 'stuck in a textbook neo-Impressionistic ecclesiastical rut'. Could be worse, I guess...

20/06/2017: A five-star review in Choir & Organ which calls the CD 'uniformly excellent' and a 'satisfying programme, finely sung'. Which is better!
