Review of 2022

After two difficult years of very little, 2022 always promised to offer much more and I’m glad to report that it did. It has been a wonderful year with travel, premieres, recordings, broadcasts and much more. There were performances and premieres in the USA, Canada, Portugal, Poland, France, Netherlands and Sweden as well as many more closer to home.

Some of the highlights include the much-delayed premiere of Thread About My Heart (2020) in my hometown of Keswick in May followed by a memorable tour round the Orkney Isles with the University of Aberdeen Chamber Choir (including my Alma Redemptoris Mater). Amazing visits to Leiden and Lund for premieres in October were almost unbelievable after the COVID years, but all the more welcome for it. Finishing the year with several performances of There is no rose (2013) from The Sixteen was a wonderful end.

Perhaps the main highlight was being promoted to professor at work in July and having a year-long sabbatical in which I wrote a whole album of piano music - this was recorded in November and will be released in early 2023. And we got a puppy, which was total madness, but fun nonetheless.
